Artin representations

An Artin representation is a continuous homomorphism ρ:Gal(Q‾/Q)→GL⁡(V)\rho:\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\Q}/\Q)\to\GL(V) from the absolute Galois group of Q\Q to the automorphism group of a finite-dimensional C\C-vector space VV. Here continuity means that ρ\rho factors through the Galois group of some finite extension K/QK/\Q. The smallest such KK is called the Artin field of ρ\rho.
